GROW YOUR OWN goes high-tech

We’ve been working with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science to design a revolutionary new hydroponic device that allows home users to rapidly grow top quality plants or veg indoors, in high yields, with no skill, and without the mess of soil. A well established market gardening technique, now available to the public with the help of some very advanced design and technology.

PER Design attends 2009 World Design Congress & Inaugural Beijing Design Week

PER Design recently took an active role in both the 2009 World Design Congress, and the 1st Beijing Design Week. The events were opened by a delegation of leading Chinese and international designers walking from central Beijing into nearby Tongzhou District – the venue site and another of Beijing’s blossoming creative quarters.

The procession included 15 leading domestic design consultancies, as well as world-class designers such as Max Burton (Executive Creative Director at Frog Design, formerly of Nike’s Tech Lab) and Park Young Soon (Chair of Korean Federation of Design Associations and Director of Korean Institute of Design Promotion). Of course PER Design was deeply involved too, with all delegates keen to talk about their future business and creative outlook.

UK ID student successfully completes internship at PER

Louise Cochrane is a final year Product Design Engineering student studying at Strathclyde University. She’s just completed a successful 2 month internship as an industrial designer in our Beijing studio, and here’s what she said about it:

“This position gave me the opportunity to move to China for the two months of my internship. Speaking no Mandarin at the time, I took the brave decision to head out there on my own.

During my time at PER Design in Beijing, I was a valued member of the industrial design team, working on concept sketches, 3D modelling and the rendering of my designs.  I was able to greatly improve my knowledge of SolidWorks and Photoshop especially.

My internship was invaluable in terms of giving me experience and insight into a real working environment, interacting with clients, colleagues and other departments of the company - such as engineering.

Living in China was an amazing experience, immersing myself in the culture and customs of the Chinese people.”

PER Design named “Most influential design organisation in China”

The China International Design & Art Fair (CIDF) is initiated by Tsinghua University and organised by China Building Decoration Association, Tsinghua University Academy of Art and Design, and the China Industrial Design Association.

Since it’s start 4 years ago, it’s been widely supported by the China Industrial Design Association, Tsinghua University, China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Guangzhou Fine Arts Institute, ICSID, Hong Kong Institute of Architects, UK Design Council, Beijing Industrial Design Center and associations and institutes from Italy, Switzerland, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Over 2000 designers have participated in the exhibitions to date.

The activities include design competitions, design seminars, exhibitions and lectures to improve and promote contemporary design, and strengthen the interaction between designers, support associations and businesses internationally.

On 13th July 2009, the creative forum and award ceremony of the 4th China International Design and Art Fair came to a close at the Beijing New Century Hotel. Many domestic and overseas designers were present, and had an enthusiastic discussion about the future development of Chinese and international design. At this event, PER Design was named “The most influential design organisation in China”. Our design director Kai Zhou was there to receive the award.
