PER Design intern gains job with Australia’s leading ID consultancy

PER Design has a long record supporting design students through its internship programme. We have always welcomed international design students into our team, and we all benefit from sharing ideas and experiences. We are very proud that one of our star interns, Edwina Lawson, has just been invited to join one of Australia’s leading industrial design firms – and we wish her good luck.

Here’s what Edwina says about her experience at PER Design:
I completed my internship with PER Design and Consultants in 2007 during my final honors year at the University of Newcastle, Australia. These internships are lucrative and competitive and also require the intern to relocate to Beijing for its duration.

The experience that I had with PER Design was invaluable. It provided me with a well rounded perspective in industrial design and manufacturing, as well as first hand experience in an internationally competitive design consultancy. Furthermore it gave me an insight into Chinese culture, which is a valuable commodity considering the level of production and manufacturing which occurs in China today.

During the time in Beijing I developed an excellent rapport with Rong Zhong – the company director who’s professionalism, initiative and forethought drives the company to continually push new boundaries. I believe this connection in itself will lead to future opportunities.

Once graduating I was armed with the experience and understanding to make me a highly competitive graduate. This competitive edge enabled me to gain employment with Design+Industry (www.design-industry.com.au), Australia’s largest and leading Industrial Design consultancy.

Rong Zhong and his team at PER Design have my eternal gratitude for providing me with a launching pad for my career. I have no hesitation in commending PER Design to any organisation or individual that might be considering engaging them.

PER Design launches its own range of home & office products

Our design team is a creative resource that cannot sit idle. That’s why we encourage our designers to develop their own personal product ideas in-house, and together we commercialise the best ones using our full company resources.

This approach has resulted in a fantastic range of home, office, gift and promotional products designed by our staff – with some of them patent pending. Please contact us if you would like to know more.

PER Design successfully completes Beijing Olympics projects

Our Beijing studio won a number of high profile design projects from the Chinese Olympic Organising Committee, and these have now been successfully delivered in time for the Games this August.

Working with telecoms provider China Netcom, we’ve developed a range of information terminals and kiosks for sporting venues, athlete villages and city centres. We have also designed an intelligent control panel for the Olympic village buildings, and a range of promotional merchandise products for some of our key customers.

The Olympic authorities placed a lot of trust in us, but in return we delivered fine design on time and to budget – and they praised our good service. So we look forward to being involved in more high level projects like this in future.

Matthew Link helps BPMA promote Design & Innovation

Established in 1965, the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA) is the UK’s leading industry body dedicated to promoting best practice around the sourcing, manufacturing and distribution of promotional products.

The BPMA’s new director general has a forward-thinking strategy. He wants his members to embrace design and innovation like never before, as it’s good for business and also lifts their industry reputation. Our UK managing director, Matthew Link, has been helping the BPMA devise and deliver this ambitious design and innovation strategy, and it’s a great honour to be involved in such an exciting challenge.

Matthew has been helping the BPMA across a wide range of activities, starting with the launch of their member accreditation scheme for which he’s developed the Design & Innovation education module. Matthew is also planning to launch a 3M sponsored student design competition, to show the industry what gems creative thinking can bring.

Many other programs and events are planned with the BPMA, and we hope the industry can benefit from our group’s considerable product innovation, design and manufacture experience. Together we hope to put design and innovation at the centre of business growth strategy in the UK.
